Nicholas P. Myers
Ladies and Gentlemen
The Handsome and Talented:
Nicholas P. Myers
I've been self publishing my own comics for over ten years.
I'm married with two beautiful little girls and they are very awesome
to let me have time to continue my little dream
of becoming a successful comic book creator.
I formed my recent company. ANA Comics,
with two other individuals,
Anthony Hary from Minnesota and
Adrian Wilkins from Washington DC.
These are two individuals who share the same drive and passion
in comics as I do and they also share my understanding of the
importance of our family during all of our efforts.
The REASON we are doing what we do is because of our family.
I graduated from Kendall College of Art and Design
and have always lived in West Michigan.
The books that I've published are
and Harijan
I'm now working on a webcomic by the name of
I've also participated in numerous publishing efforts
with short story collections with other local writers.
Here's the main link for our ANA Comics website:
Here's the direct link to my two webcomics that are running now.
TPANVB and reprinting in digital format, Oasis: Omnibus:
And here is some art for you:
Thanks a million for this!!!
Thank you Nick. What a treat.
That is quite a collection of work. Come back soon.
You're always welcome at CCU.

Comic Book Covers We Forgot
CLASSIC COVERS
They need love. Look 'em up won't you.
The Mighty Thor
Marvel: Vol. 1, No. 455, early Dec, 1992
FRENZ-OLLIFFE-MILGROM
A very nice cover. ODIN AMOK! I'll say. Odin looks nuts but he
has the hammer. Don't you love Thor's helmet/mask.
I wonder how long that lasted. It's really a dude named Eric.
Editors note to see THOR #441. I'll have to look that one up.
Interior art by Wyman/Milgrom is just as good.
Green Lantern
DC: Vol. 16, No. 104, May, 1978
Mike Grell
Another good one. It looks like a Marvel cover to me.
I like the color in the word balloons. Who died?
"ITTY" GL's little alien pal. Itty doesn't bother to
come out of the grave until the very last panel in the book.
This comic has a silly story that brings forth Airwave 2
a 16 year old hero wannabe with a silly costume.
Airwave 2 does see action but he doesn't really help
in this issue anyway. It's a set up for us to buy the next issue.
An effective cover did work. I picked up the issue.
What if?
Marvel: Vol. 1, No. 11, Oct., 1978
Kirby/Sinnoit
C'mon it's Kirby (writer/artist/editor) "nuff said".
Stan Lee as Mr. Fantastic
Sol Brodsky asThe Human Torch
Jack Kirby as The Thing
Flo Steinberg as The Invissble Girl
A Kirby cover followed by 46 pages of Kirby art.
What more can I say? It's a Kirby-a-rama.
Much fun was had in this "What If" a title that usually delivered.
We'll go now and bring back a normal comic review next Sunday.
Please don't leave in a snit.
The Twisted Tantrums of
The Purple Snit
Blackthorne Publishing Inc: No. 1, Oct, 1986
Kelley/Dennis
A fun well done cover. This Indy was well printed inside and out.
B &W book featuring this guy in an OK story.
I found the BPI's forthcoming comic book ads interesting:
LAFFIN' GAS
ALIEN DUCKLINGS
REVOLVING DOORS
COLD BLOODED CHAMELEON COMMANDOS
I'll have to find those.
I must say when I pulled this mag out I was surprised to find
a little dude named "WIT".
Small world. Big teeth.

Tokka
The New Year Can Start Now.
CCU Presents:
TOKKA
BEKEEN DESIGN and DEVELOPMENT
Hi, my name is T.R.Mayer aka Tokka (multiple personalities *sigh*)
and I'm a freelancer :) A little bit about me:
I was discovered on 17.03.1979 in a chocolate
bonbon 50% Irish and 50% German in Berlin, Germany.
I started with the first cavepaintings
as I was able to hold a pencil.
After many years with various jobs,
I decided to become a freelance artist to sell
my creative vein to other people.
Since then, I cheerfully create graphics, illustration and websites.
In my spare time I like to read webcomics
and look at digital art by other artists.
By the way I get my inspiration from movies and music.
They help stimulate me to paint something
or get ideas for some new stuff.
Meanwhile, I compose and write songs
for small projects and work on small flash games.
Cheers and all the best
ur Tokka
CCU can't wait for you to return with more great artwork.
Wow. What a way to start the year off.
Be sure to check out all of Tokka's links.
Tell us what you think. Join the fun. Promote your work.
Captain America: Alive and well in 1984
Hello. Hello. It's Sunday again and I STEVERINO
have returned from the Big Box with an old friend.
Good ol'
CAPTAIN AMERICA
Vol 1, No. 296, August, 1984
"Things Fall Apart"
Writer:J.M. DeMatteis Penciler:Paul Neary
Inker:Sam DeLarosa Colorist:Bob Sharen Letterer:Diana Albers
This book is obviously part (2nd) of a storyline that once again pits
Cap and his current side-kick (Nomad) against the Red Skull
and his current band of no-goodniks
(daughter Synthia known as Mother Superior
and her Sisters of Sin, and Baron Zemo) In a battle designed
to kill Captain America by making him old, weak and crazy
before the fight. The crazy part seemed to work best on Nomad.
By this point we've seen the Falcon doped
and taken in by the sisters as Wasp and Starfox discover
a vanished Berine Rosenthal (Caps chick)
and set off to assemble the Avengers.
We don't see the latter two again this issue.
After a bout with the robot of Caps missing buddy Arnie
Cap and Nomad (brought here in the previous issue)
set out to find the Skull and Zemo.
They find the aged corps of Skulls right-hand man Horst.
Our two heroes now realize how much Cap has aged himself.
They press on and come upon a
Berlin style lounge full of Arnie look-a-likes
and Mother Superior singing away until Nomad realizes what's
been eating away at him. Posing as Scarlet (in issues 287-88)
Mother S brain washed him with a kiss or two.
Nomad has been dosing Caps drinks with a chemical
that reversed the effects of the
Super-Soldier Serum that made him Captain America.
"I'm the one who made you old!!" Nomad passes out.
He'll always be a side-kick.
A now old Captain sees his buddy Arnie on stage and
can't get to him right away. Arnie's mind pops as Cap reaches him.
Mother Superior appears and takes on a weak Captain America.
Cap is beat about the head and face
but decides to reason with her. Why not.
She does not buy it. The Skull has raised her well.
Mother shows her cards, displays the captives and stabs
Captain America in the back as he looks on in horror.
More drugs. Cap is down.
Is it Zemo time yet?
It is indeed. Who is that boney looking dude behind him?
In the end we see Zemo and friend show up to finish
the job. It doesn't look good for the good guys.
I think they get out of this one. That fight was 26 years ago.
This Android did like the comic and will try
real hard to pull issue 297 out of The Big Box.
The issue had a good story, a sweet cover and great art.
I do wish they made Cap look as old as advertised
and Nomad (for some reason) annoyed me at first but
by the end of the mag I liked how he balanced out Captain America.
Good stuff. I hope I pull one just as good next Sunday.
See ya.
Is he a made up hero?
Is he a real live Superhero?
I think he's both.

Ryan Carpentier: Illustrator
CCU has got talent. New Talent.
Ryan Carpentier:
Illustrator/Cartoonist
Illustrator/Cartoonist
Ryan Carpentier recently graduated from the
University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire
with an illustration major. His style is very cartoony
and he always attempts
to add humor to his imagery when possible.
His work has been published in magazines around the northern Wisconsin area and displayed at local businesses. Images of Ryan's work can be viewed at his website http://www.ryancarpentier.com/.
After spending a year and half as an illustrator with
Volume One magazine, which covers
Wisconsin culture and entertainment,
he is now looking to get his work out for larger audiences.
With a desire to create a funny comic strip,
Ryan has been developing the cartoon known as "Alien and Dog."
Always a sci-fi fan (Trekkie alert) and especially a lover of canines
(his dog Penny is always a source of material for his cartoons),
he decided to merge the two affections into a cartoon
that puts a different spin on the old 'owner and his pet' story.
ALIEN and DOG
With the cartoon strip still in it's infancy,
Ryan definitely loves drawing "Alien and Dog"
and can't wait to continue with the two wacky characters
on his blog at
Thanks Ryan.
We're gonna keep an eye out for those two
and your illustrations. CCU hopes you'll come back
and show off Alien and Dog as it progresses.

STEVERINO Goes Green
Steve-o here back this week to bring you
the tale of the new Green Lantern of space sector 2814.
GREEN LANTERN: EMERALD DAWN
Book 1 of 6, Dec 1989
Published by DC Comics
"The Sign" (I guess that's this chapters title.
It shows up on the last page along with the credits)
Written by: Jim Owsley/M.D.Bright Inks: Romeo Tanghal
lettering: Al DeGuzman
Yawn. This is said to be essential reading and
THE series to read about GL in Post-Crisis continuity.
OK, but a whole book showing Hal Jordan's dad Lt. Martin H. Jordan
crash and die in front of his two sons (Jack) and a woman I assume
is his wife as well as his Ferris Aircraft co-workers
and then follows Hal while he self-destructs?
Chapter one of six shows us 23 pages of a story that could have
taken five or six pages to tell.
This is the best page in the book.
It features a dying Abin Sur, the Green Lantern of Space Sector 2814
only we are not told his full name or why he crashed.
I can deal with that but the cool red alien passing
the ring and lantern on gets two pages.Two.
I think the above page is supposed to be the show stopper.
It's not. Like the story it's dull and not well done.
This happened alot in the Eighties.
You see. He almost gives a complete summary
of this comic in three panels. Chapter one of six did
do its job. I do want to read on and see where
Emerald Dawn goes from here.
Hopefully, up.
And now back to the fun.
How about a fan made GL video?
How about an Emerald Dawn action figure?
Ring?
Cookie?
OK. I'll move on.
If I do pull books two thru six out of
The Big Box I'll probably read them too.
How else will I know what happens?
